Black Pepper
PIPER NIGRUM
Also called peppercorn, this flowering vine produces one of the most widely used spices in the world and has been cultivated for millennia. Native to South and Southeast Asia, black pepper offers a complex blend of pungent aromas, ranging from earthy notes to intense heat, enhancing the flavour of almost any preparation.
Cambodia, particularly Kampot Province, benefits from ideal soil and climatic conditions for pepper cultivation and is home to the renowned Kampot pepper. Its cultivation in the country has been documented since the 13th century.
In our medicinal forest garden, we carefully cultivate black pepper, which also grows in the nearby Kulen Mountains. The spice is rich in piperine, the plant compound responsible for its distinctive heat. Piperine also contains antioxidants and may support the absorption of essential nutrients such as calcium and selenium. Our gin features black pepper.
