Holy Basil

This aromatic plant, native to South and Southeast Asia, has deep roots in folk medicine. Considered a tonic for the mind, body, and spirit, its medicinal properties include reducing stress and anxiety, accelerating wound healing, and easing inflammation, among other benefits. It can grow up to 60 centimetres tall, with straight, hairy stems and ovate leaves.

Our Forest Garden grows a considerable amount of this herb. We harvest it just before flowering to ensure maturity and achieve the strongest possible flavour. Its aromatic scent is accompanied by a sharp, pungent taste described as warm and smoky, with peppermint and clove overtones. It adds another dimension of flavour to both our herbal tea and gin.
