Also called Indian borage or Mexican mint, this herbal spice is native to Africa, Arabia, and the Indian sub-continent.
In Khmer language, it is called ជីស្លឹកក្រាស់ directly translated to “thick-leaved herb” referring to its very notable fleshy and broad leaves with hair giving it a frosted appearance. We also harvest in the dry season to ensure the best yield and strongest taste. The herb’s pungent oregano-like flavor is important as it gives our gin a strong smokey and earthy taste.
In our medicinal forest garden, it grows in small bushes never growing high. Traditionally, in Cambodia, it is widely used in cuisine but also in traditional medicines, especially for digestive issues. You can find this herb featured in our gin.
