This flowering plant originating in Southeast Asia has roots that are widely used as both spice and herbal folk medicine.
At the Forest Garden, we make sure to harvest during the dry season and approximately 10 months after planting. This ensures the ginger is old and matured enough to yield the strongest flavor to add its signature earthy heat to our herbal tea and gin. This melange of peppery spiciness with hints of sweetness creates a unique and striking taste but the specialty of ginger doesn’t end here; the high levels of gingerol found in the spice contain strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The spice, thus, has for centuries been used as folk medicine and found to be effective in treating nausea, coughs, colds, indigestion, and joint pain among numerous other health benefits.
We, at Herbal Kulen, have also been tapping into Black ginger production, a special type of ginger specific to the Kulen mountains.
